City Information

Newcastle was named after the Norman castle and earned the status of city in 1882. The most famous landmark is the Tyne Bridge. Across the world, there are many towns and cities called Newcastle (at least 30) but there is only one Newcastle upon Tyne.

The city was once famous as the UK’s coal capital but has transformed into one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country. The city is an important shipping and trade center.

The journey by rail from London Kings Cross Station to Newcastle it takes 3 hours and by coach from London Victoria about 7 hours.

If you are looking for a good place to eat out, you'll find food on offer from all around the world. There are Italian, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Greek, Mongolian, Chinese or English restaurants and numerous cafés and pubs to suit every budget
