City InformationBath is an elegant city, whose name is derived from it's hot springs. Being a small city steeped in history, one has plenty to see in Bath without having to walk very far. Bath has now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage City and throngs with tourists exploring the grand Georgian architecture of the Royal Crescent, the Roman baths and numerous museums and art galleries. Bath is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the coast at South Wales is within easy reach.
Two thousand years ago the conquering Romans recreated the bathhouses they were used to back home, ever since then the City of Bath has been a popular destination for visitors from around the world. In the early eighteenth century Bath became England’s premier spa town, where the rich and celebrated members of fashionable society gathered to ‘take the waters’ and enjoy the town’s theatres and concert rooms. During this period the renowned architect John Wood laid the foundations for a new Georgian city to be built using the honey-coloured stone that gives Bath its mellow and indefinable quality.
Bath Spa mainline station is on the London to Bristol railway line. Half-hourly services run to London Paddington, a journey of approximately ninety minutes. Bristol, with connections to the Midlands, the North and the South West is a fifteen minute journey. National Express coach services operate from Bath Coach Station to London Victoria and other destinations
